Strathaven Ales

Strathaven Ales is the pinnacle of traditional real ale brewing with our stone clad brewing kettle and well used brew-house based in an old mill dating back to the early 1800s. The mill originally manufactured crushed barley for the brewery trade and flour for the local artisan bakers  We consider our beers to be very traditional, our brewing, unlike modern facilities is a hands-on labour intensive process crafted by three generations of the same family.  Manufacturing in an old building brings its challenges and we have retained many of the original mill features and a large part of the original gearing. Although this often gets in the way we feel it is part of what ensures the beer has a character not achieved in modern production units.

The Baldy Carpenter

Based in Strathaven Fraser Dodds has had an interest in woodworking all of his life. Since watching his grandfather undertake woodworking as a hobby Fraser’s interest has now become a full time venture under the title of the Baldy Carpenter.

Fraser’s style is, wherever possible to include the ‘waney edge’ of the timber in all of his pieces. Using locally sourced native hardwoods Fraser has been able to keep the wood miles of the products to a minimum while also giving the buyer the exact knowledge of where the timber was grown.

St Brides Poultry Farm

If you think of an idyllic chicken farm, you probably picture deep grass and happy chickens walking around – well that’s exactly what we do. Our small family run farm is located just outside the picturesque village of Strathaven. We select slow-growing, flavourful breeds and let them grow slowly. Very slowly. It would be quicker and easier for us to feed them fast, and sell them cheap, but that’s not what we believe in. Slow grown birds live happier lives and taste far, far better.
