Strathaven Gala Week

Strathaven holds an annual Gala Week offering a range of activities including a raft race, model boat regatta, car treasure hunt, musical performances and the annual Gala Parade and family fun day.  Children and adults from local schools, nurseries, community groups and local organisations make up floats and parade through the town to the George Allan Park where the gala ceremony takes place followed by a family fun day.  The Gala Day is the second Saturday in June with the other events taking place the week before.

Strathaven Balloon Festival

Strathaven holds an annual Balloon Festival, traditionally on the last weekend in August.  In 2019 the event attracted around 40,000 visitors over the course of a wonderfully sunny weekend In 2021 the festival is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 27-29 August in the John Hastie Park near the town centre.  As well as offering the opportunity to see a variety of balloons in flight, the event also features Saturday and Sunday fun days for all the family and live music.  On the Saturday evening there is the evening glow with balloons dancing to music.  The event is free.

Strathaven Show

This annual agricultural show has been taking place for over 100 years with the 100th anniversary celebrated in 2019.  The event is a great event for families with horse riding events, stalls and entertainment.  The event has a serious element as well with competitions for animals as well as judging of baking and crafts.  The Strathaven Agricultural Exposition takes place each year on the first Saturday in September.

Strathaven Fireworks and Bonfire Night

The annual fireworks and bonfire night organised by Strathaven and District Round Table is held on the Saturday in November closest to the 5th of November.  The event is eld in Strathaven Park.  Tickets are required and are available across Strathaven ahead of the event.

Round Strathaven 50

The Round Strathaven 50 (RS50) is held every August and is a challenging cycle run, following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area and through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapelton and Auldhouse. The growing number of experienced cyclists who take part see the 50 mile route as presenting them with a worthwhile challenge. There is also an alternative and equally popular 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but equally worthwhile challenge and for families with younger children. Refreshment stops are provided along the way. Runners can also complete the 50 mile route, either individually or in relay teams.

Strathaven Raft Race

The annual raft race is one of the most fun events in the Strathaven calendar and takes place on the first Sunday in June. Teams of up to four either use a prebuilt raft or design their own raft to race up the River Avon near Strathaven Ales brewery.

Hangarfest

Now fixed on the first Saturday in June, this event features a world of local musicians performing in the town’s bars and cafes.  It is a fundraiser for Adams Community Trust, an organisation that is dedicated to improving the facilities and amenities within the Strathaven area.

Strathaven Folk Festival

This event is held annually on the last Saturday in July.  This increasingly popular event brings the world of folk music top the bars, cafes and shops of Strathaven.

Reindeer Day

Held on the second Sunday in December, this popular event features a sleigh ridden by Santa himself and a lucky local child, pulled through the streets by a herd of reindeer.  There is a funfair, stalls, food and music.

Glassford Gala Day

This popular village galaday celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2019. The event is held in Glassford on the third Saturday in June and is another free event.
