Strathaven Gala Week
Strathaven holds an annual Gala Week offering a range of activities including a raft race, model boat regatta, car treasure hunt, musical performances and the annual Gala Parade and family fun day. Children and adults from local schools, nurseries, community groups and local organisations make up floats and parade through the town to the George Allan Park where the gala ceremony takes place followed by a family fun day. The Gala Day is the second Saturday in June with the other events taking place the week before.
Strathaven Balloon Festival
Strathaven holds an annual Balloon Festival, traditionally on the last weekend in August. In 2017 this will take place over the weekend of 25-27 August. For this year’s event it will represent South Lanarkshire’s contribution to Homecoming Scotland and will take place in the John Hastie Park. As well as offering the opportunity to see a variety of balloons in flight, the event also features Saturday and Sunday fun days for all the family. The event is free.
Annual agricultural show with horse riding events, stalls and entertainment for all the family as well as judging of prize animals. Takes place on the first Saturday in September.
Strathaven Fireworks and Bonfire Night
Annual fireworks and bonfire night organised by Strathaven and District Round Table. Held in Strathaven Park. Tickets required.
Round Strathaven 50
The RS50 is held every August and is a challenging cycle run, following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area and through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapelton and Auldhouse. The growing number of experienced cyclists who take part see the 50 mile route as presenting them with a worthwhile challenge. There is also an alternative and equally popular 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but equally worthwhile challenge and for families with younger children. Refreshment stops are provided along the way. Runners can also complete the 50 mile route, either individually or in relay teams.
Now fixed on the first Saturday in June, this event features a world of local musicians performing in the town’s bars and cafes. It is a fundraiser for Adams Community Trust, an organisation that is dedicated to improving the facilities and amenities within the Strathaven area.
Strathaven Folk Festival
Held annually on the last Saturday in July this increasingly popular event brings the world of folk music top the bars, cafes and shops of Strathaven.
Held on the second Sunday in December, this popular event features a sleigh ridden by Santa himself and a lucky local child, pulled through the streets by a herd of reindeer. There is a funfair, stalls, food and music.
